Vasilisa Atanackovic

Vasilisa Atanackovic is a Serbian Canadian soprano celebrated for her remarkable versatility and powerful voice, which has made a profound impact in both opera and musical theatre. With a career spanning prestigious opera houses, concert stages, and theatre productions worldwide, Vasilisa’s exceptional talent and artistry have captivated audiences across Europe, North America, and beyond.

Her opera repertoire includes standout roles such as Tatyana in  Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin with the Academy of Vocal Arts and Helen of Troy in the innovative Intuition of Iphigenia at the LA Opera Studio Theatre and Ryerson Theatre, composed and directed by renowned composer, Nathan Wang . Vasilisa’s portrayal of Sister Angelica in Puccini's Suor Angelica has earned high praise, with memorable performances at the Berlin Opera Academy, the Mediterranean Opera Festival, and the Sicilian Music Festival at Bellini Theatre. She also starred as in La Traviata in Sicily, further solidifying her place among the most expressive and versatile sopranos of her age. Her powerful soprano, often described as a “generational voice,” was praised by a Philadelphia news reporter who remarked, “If the Statue of Liberty could sing, she’d sound like Vasilisa Atanackovic, sheer power.”

Vasilisa’s concert performances have taken her across Europe and North America, including notable appearances in Greece, Rome, Germany, and Serbia. Her concerts, such as Summer Serenades in Valjevo, Serbia, and Greatest Italian Arias at Hamilton Theatre, have earned her rave reviews for her vocal prowess and emotive delivery. Additionally, her collaboration with Jadranka Jovanovic during a Canadian tour further highlights her impressive vocal range and technical skill.

In musical theatre, Vasilisa has showcased her acting and singing talent with standout performances such as Morticia in The Addams Family and Christine in Phantom of the Opera, as well as her portrayal of Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and Lady Macbeth in Macbeth. In addition to performing, Vasilisa is a stage director and private vocal & acting coach. Her directorial debut in The Wizard of Oz at Liberty Junction Theatre displayed her creative versatility and vision beyond the stage.

Her recent television appearance as an opera singer in The Stranger Experiment on CRAVE TV added another dimension to her already diverse career, demonstrating her ability to cross genres and engage audiences in multiple mediums.

Vasilisa’s exceptional artistry is the result of years of rigorous training. She studied under renowned instructors such as Jadranka Jovanovic and Marta Greda-Kicek, further honing her vocal technique at the Berlin Opera Academy, where she worked with industry legends like Peter Leonard and Axel Kresin. Her time at the Mediterranean Opera Festival, with coaches such as Mariella Devia and Giuseppe Fillianoti, added depth and nuance to her already impressive performance skills. In addition to gracing classical venues and concerts with her performances, Vasilisa has also had the honour of singing and touring with Dr. Nele Karajlic and his renowned Yugoslavian punk-rock band "Zabranjeno Pušenje" (The No Smoking Orchestra) during their tours across Canada and the USA in both 2018 and 2022.

A graduate of the Ryerson University Theatre School with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting, Vasilisa was awarded the Nona Heaslip Excellence in Acting Scholarship. Her training included specialized techniques such as Chekhov, Shakespeare, and Commedia dell'arte, which have informed her nuanced and dynamic performances. Additionally, Vasilisa is a trained dancer, having received her diploma in Vaganova ballet under the guidance of Vitek Wincza at the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts.
